Proximity Readers

Proximity readers are what make the magic of touch-free, keyless access to secure properties real. These wall-mounted devices allow you to present cards or fobs even without these items touching the proximity reader (although some variants might require “tapping” the card onto the interface to grant access and disengage the lock.

These devices communicate with access control panels, reading unique user credentials before signalling controllers to grant (or deny) entry. We often see them in offices and multi-site organisations, although you’ll be more familiar with those used in the UK’s transport system (like the yellow/blue Oyster card readers on bus validators and Tube gates).

These readers can be single-door standalone versions or networked models for enterprise systems. Long-range readers can detect cards and fobs up to half a metre, enabling drive-through access without lowering your car windows.

Meanwhile, short-range versions are perfect for preventing inadvertent triggering from passing credentials. Some readers have excellent ingress protection, while others have sleek designs perfect for complementing modern interiors.
